Consuming Fire

God is a consuming fire.

In your mind or heart though you can relegate Him to a tiny corner where there's not even a flame.

Or He can burn through your soul and mind. Flames licking at the edges of your core. A consuming fire.

My sin, my hurt, my insecurities, my selfishness all get consumed.

And my heart gets overtaken with a fiery passion for Christ alone.

And all that matters is what does not burn up and what is eternal. All that matters is what stands after the flame burns through.

Eternal works, investing in people and making His name and glory known are all that last.

And sometimes it's so comforting and fearful all at once to acknowledge that my God is a consuming fire.

"At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,  for our “God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:26-29
