I've already mentioned Aloha BBQ to you all here. But we took Terrill and Amber this weekend and got to get some pictures and good food.
So prepare yourself to be amazed by another local food review.
Aloha BBQ on 98th street is Hawaiian and as the door says, is "imported from Hawaii". Get yourself there quickly. Trust me. Of course, it's not for everyone. It's not for people who don't like piping, hot, tasty food. If you don't want bursts of joy in your mouth then don't go. That's all I'm saying.
The family that works Aloha is always friendly and generous. The walls are a crazy bright yellow that just screams, "Eat here!". I want to drag in a surf board and have sand in my hair when I come in here. Not that I've ever drug a surf board anywhere but that is not the point.
The Hawaiian prints on the wall have a few strategically placed flowers. Here is a mild one.
I'm not a crazy meat eater. I know, I know, am I a Texan after all? But this place has the best barbecue. Everyone we go with raves about the meat.
Not so much for me. It's not them, it's me. BUT even for the non-"crazy meat eater" there are things to crazy love.
(Tasty, fresh egg rolls.)
Like the Sia Pao (which I'm sure I'm misspelling) which are steamed dumplings with a sweet and sour pork barbecue center. As our guests said, "Surprisingly enjoyable!" as they devoured them. I barely got a picture. These little dumplings aren't dumpy. They're a highlight. As in, when people fly over from Africa, and drive over from Florida- rush them there to taste these delights.(Terrill's first experience. He's lovin' it!)
That's yummy.
They have such Hawaiian specialties if you're feeling brave, as Loco Moco, which is savory hamburger patties over rice covered in homemade brown gravy and topped with eggs.
Next time I promise myself to try them. As it is, I can't stop myself from ordering the dumplings.
And my curiosity is piqued about all of the potential in the SPAM dishes. And remember, I'm no meat lover.
For now, I stuck with Fried Rice with Chicken, in which I picked past most of the chicken. This was an order for one, as in one human being. One tiny stomach. Amber and I shared it and had enough for us each to share another day.
Oh my yum. So good.
(The Number One is a first timer's favorite with a mix of all types of Polynesian BBQ.)
On this occasion J was living large and ordered soup. A bummer that I had to position this shot in front of the trash can. Sorry.
Another huge bonus is that Aloha delivers. The only downside I can see is the excessive use of styrofoam. A bit of a bummer for this green girl. It makes me feel like this...
All in all Aloha is a tasty treat and a welcome change.
Aloha y'all!

Today's workout: Rest and Relaxation! Ahhh! Enjoy your Sabbath folks.

Now I'm starving! I was thinking through all the major events and significant moments of our last ten years, which has been ten years of marriage as well, and all the lessons God has taught me through each one, or through all of them together. I decided to write it down, because there has been so much He has done in my life. I don't know if I have actually gained it as wisdom, becuase I don't always live as though I "know" those things, but I am still working on it. Now that you mention it, I bet it would be a good exercise for everyone.
I certainly did enjoy my sabbath! and it's not over so i'm excited about that. Your post made me hungry...maybe i'll go get some "training ice cream" - uhm, the same as non training ice cream but that's my justification for eating it.
...I am glad we went there with y'all. you know how sometimes you take people to a restaurant you love and they don't even kind of like it? It was my fear, but now I am glad we did it. We should try fun places like that with y'all more often!
"bursts of joy in your mouth." Oh Georgie, how are we not "real life" friends? :)
